Goodall Hospital in Sanford will become part of the MaineHealth network under an agreement announced Monday.
The 58-bed hospital, which also has three outpatient centers, five long-term care facilities and an occupational health and wellness center, will become part of MaineHealth's not-for-profit system of health care providers, which includes Maine Medical Center in Portland and Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford, according to a press release. Trustees of both organizations unanimously approved the agreement, which could be complete by the end of the year pending state review.
With MaineHealth as its parent organization, Goodall will be able to realize efficiencies and cost savings while maintaining the accessibility and quality of health care in the area it serves, the press release states.
The hospital, one of Sanford's largest employers, in March cut pay and benefits for workers to avoid further layoffs. In January, the hospital laid off the equivalent of 30 full-time employees to save $1.6 million in the face of the recession and lagging state MaineCare reimbursements.
