Sargent Corp., an employee-owned general contractor based in Orono, has promoted Carey Sheehan to vice president of accounting and administration.
In her new role, Sheehan will oversee the cost control and administrative teams and work closely with colleagues across all departments to help strengthen Sargent’s financial strategies and long-term planning. Sargent is Maine's second-largest construction firm.
“As our company continues to grow, I’m excited to play a role in driving and sustaining that momentum,” said Sheehan. “I want to do everything I can to help make Sargent the best company it can be, creating the best possible opportunities and experiences for my fellow employee-owners.
"I look forward to building on our strong team culture and enhancing our financial and administrative processes for years to come," she continued.
Sheehan joined Sargent in 2000. She most recently served as controller, managing day-to-day financial operations, reporting functions, audits and various accounting services.
“Carey’s well-earned promotion recognizes her leadership, expertise, and dedication to Sargent’s employee-owners,” said CFO Tasha Gardner.
“For over 20 years, she has been a trusted, steady presence — my right hand — whose collaborative approach and cross-departmental skills make her an invaluable leader," Gardner added. "Her continued leadership exemplifies Sargent’s values and ensures our financial strength and long-term success.”
Prior to joining Sargent, Sheehan worked at Champion International Paper in Bucksport.
The Maine native received her bachelor's degree in public accounting from Husson University and later earned her CPA certification after an internship and subsequent role at Berry Dunn.
Sargent Corp. is the state's second-largest construction company, according to the most recent Mainebiz Book of Lists, based on 2023 revenue of $224.4 million. The company focuses on infrastructure projects in the transportation, energy, landfill and municipal sectors.
