School contractor vanishes with $5.6K

Officials with the Brunswick School Department believe they've been duped out of over $5,600 after a supposedly New York-based company hired to manage substitute teachers went incommunicado.

The Forecaster reported that a call to the website of Central Xchange, allegedly based in Syracuse, N.Y., went to an answering machine for New England Car Wash Equipment, based in Acton, Mass.

The building manager for the address listed on the company's website told the paper that Central Xchange had moved out of its Syracuse offices years ago.

School Department Superintendent Paul Perzanoski told the town's School Board that he last spoke with a company representative in September who said that the system was having problems with their online Sub-IT system that would take time to fix.

School officials have hired another firm, CRS Advanced Technology of Mountoursville, Pa., and are still looking to contact Central Xchange, which has contracted with the Brunswick district for five years.
