Senate confirms Baldacci's nominees

The Maine Senate yesterday confirmed a handful of gubernatorial nominees.

The Senate confirmed in a vote of 33-0 the nomination of Ryan Low, currently Gov. John Baldacci's deputy chief of staff, as commissioner of the Department of Administrative and Financial Services, according to the Portland Press Herald. It also confirmed Jack Cashman, a top Baldacci aide, as the newest member of the Maine Public Utilities Commission. The Senate also approved six nominees for the new state Board of Corrections, which will coordinate aspects of the consolidation of the county jails and state prison systems. Three nominees for the newly expanded board that oversees the Dirigo health program also were approved.

Baldacci already has sworn in Cashman to the PUC, according to a press release issued today. Cashman's term begins immediately.
