Senate OKs raising some interstate speeds

The Maine Senate has approved a bill that would allow higher speeds on portions of Maine interstates and is sending the proposal to Gov. Paul LePage's desk.

The Associated Press reported the bill would allow the state's transportation commissioner to raise the speed limit to 75 mph in select areas where the limit is now 65 mph. The bill specifies that doing so would depend on engineering surveys and a review to determine the safety of such an increase along particular stretches of Maine's interstate.
