Sequestration puts Maine air show in question

The Blue Angels have canceled four shows in April as a result of automatic federal budget cuts that, if continued, could derail the Great State of Maine Air Show scheduled for September of this year.

Maine Today Media reported that Steve Levesque, executive director of the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority, which has hosted the air show following the Navy's departure from the former Brunswick naval base, says a cancellation by the Blue Angels could be a show-stopper.

Last year, the air show brought in over 40,000 attendees and typically generates around $25,000 for local charities. An estimated 600 area hotel rooms are typically booked for the event.
