The Old Town wood pulp mill that closed in August and laid off around 180 workers owes more than a total of $2 million in taxes that are past and currently due. If unpaid, the city may be forced to make some municipal service cuts.
The Bangor Daily News reported that Old Town Fuel and Fiber owes the city of Old Town just over $1 million in overdue taxes, and another $1 million in taxes this year.
Old Town City Manager Bill Mayo told the newspaper that liens have been filed on the company's personal property for this year and last year. He said the company never paid last year's taxes and that bills have been sent for this year's taxes.
