Six developers to be recognized by MEREDA

Development of the Ballard Center, the former MaineGeneral Hospital in Augusta, by Dirigo Capital Advisors, is one of six developments in the state to be recognized by MEREDA.
The top six real estate developments in Maine in 2018 have been selected by the Maine Real Estate and Development Association, the organization announced.
The projects, which are in Westbrook, Augusta, Boothbay Harboar, Waterville, Portland and Topsham, "not only embody MEREDA's belief in responsible real estate development, but also exemplify best practices in the industry, contributing to excellent jobs and increased tax bases for our cities and towns," the organization said in a news release.
The developers will be recognized at MEREDA's spring conference on Tuesday, May 7.
Each of the six projects was selected in part based upon criteria including: noteworthy and significant project completed in 2018 (a building occupancy permit must have been issued by Dec. 31), environmental sustainability, economic impact, energy efficiency, social impact, uniqueness, difficulty of development and job creation.
The recipients are:
- Anew Development & Westbrook Housing's Riverview Terrace in Westbrook, a 58-unit unit senior housing redevelopment of a 1974 apartment complex.
- Dirigo Capital Advisors' Ballard Center in Augusta, redevelopment of the 265,000-square foot former MaineGeneral Hospital on East Chestnut Street into office space.
- Paul G. Coulombe's Boothbay Harbor Country Club in Boothbay Harbor, the redevelopment of a golf course.
- Colby College's Bill & Joan Alfond Main Street Commons in Waterville, construction of a 100,000-square-foot student residence and retail building.
- Developers Collaborative & Sea Coast Management's The Motherhouse in Portland, redevelopment of the former Sisters of Mercy convent into 88 apartments.
- Bateman Partners' Topsham Care Center in Topsham, redevelopment of a former Best Buy building on Topsham Fair Mall Road into an urgent care and diagnostics center.
The recognition ceremony will take place at the MEREDA event on May 7.
