SNAP wins second military contract

A week after winning an $11 million Army contract, a Down East company started by the Passamaquoddy Tribe has won another nearly $8 million contract.

Princeton-based Source for Native American Products was awarded the contract for the procurement of 100,000 Navy uniforms, according to a press release from U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee. Last week's Army contract was for 58,000 uniforms, and both orders are part of a larger $40 million contract. The work, which will happen in Princeton, is expected to be completed by September 2015.

SNAP was created in 2003 in partnership with the Passamaquoddy Tribe and J&P Apparel, and is the contracting and wholesale arm for Creative Apparel Associates, which makes military and commercial specialty clothing. According to Creative Apparel's website, it employs approximately 300 people in five facilities in Belmont, Harmony, Dover-Foxcroft, Fort Kent and Princeton.
