Linda Bean buys Freeport building

Entrepreneur Linda Bean, the granddaughter of Leon Leonwood Bean, has bought a vacant building in Freeport and plans to open a year-round restaurant.

Bean on Monday bought the 7,600-square-foot brick building on the corner of Main and Bow streets, which used to house a Bath & Body Works retail store, and its 25-space parking lot, according to the Portland Press Herald. The property was listed by CBRE/The Boulos Co. for $3.6 million, but the sale price wasn't released. Bean plans to expand her Linda Bean's Perfect Maine franchise by opening a restaurant that will feature local foods.

The business, launched in 2008, sells live lobster and lobster products across the country, and includes nine café locations in Maine, Massachusetts, Florida and the U.S. Virgin Islands, as well as a processing and storage facility in Rockland, which was recently damaged by fire.
