South Paris manufacturer lays off 11

Maine Machine Products in South Paris has laid off nearly a dozen employees and cut the hours of others due to a seasonal slowdown.

The facility, which makes precision machine components, laid off 11 employees Dec. 1 and placed 40 of its 138 workers on a two-weeks-on, two-weeks-off schedule, according to the Sun Journal. Human Resource Manager Erika Douglas told the paper the changes are because of a year-end lag in production and the end of work for one major customer. The company hopes to stop the rolling layoffs by the end of January.

Maine Machine was founded in 1956 and sold to New York City-based GenNx360 Capital Partners this year. The company makes components for the defense, semiconductor and oil and gas industries.
