State agencies to find $100M in cuts

Gov. Paul LePage has ordered state agencies to recommend ways to cut $100 million in spending to compensate for potential losses related to Congress' debt deal.

LePage told Capitol News Service that though it's unclear how federal spending cuts will impact Maine, the state will likely need to trim $75 million to offset a loss in federal funding. A recently appointed task force has already been charged with finding at least $25 million in savings for the $6.1 billion budget passed in June and submitting those recommendations by Dec. 15.
