State revokes liquor marketing contract

The state’s liquor marketing contract with Pine State Trading Co. has been revoked after it said the company “provided inaccurate information” in its business proposal.

The Bangor Daily News reported the Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages and Lottery Operations sent the company a notification of the decision on Monday. The state agency is expected to issue a new request for proposals soon.

The bureau said in a letter that its decision was made after Pine State disclosed “that its response to Section 1.0 of Part B of the Request for Proposals for Spirits Trade Marketing contained inaccurate information with regard to the extent of its trade marketing activities in New Hampshire,” according to the newspaper.

Jennifer Smith, a spokeswoman for the Department of Administrative and Financial Services, told the BDN that the overturning of Pine State’s marketing contract will not impact the sales and distribution of spirits in Maine.

The state awarded the Augusta-based company a 10-year contract for administering the state’s wholesale liquor distribution operation in a separate decision earlier this year. The marketing contract was awarded in February.
