The state has taken over seven private nursing homes after evidence of financial mismanagement surfaced.
All seven facilities, with a total of 180 residents, are owned or leased by Connecticut-based Eagle Landing Residential Care LLC, the Bangor Daily News reported. Problems arose earlier this year after the Maine Department of Health and Human Services heard that residents at Penobscot Nursing Home in Penobscot were losing weight. It found that vendors had stopped delivering food, propane and heating oil because of unpaid bills, the paper reported. The DHHS recently asked the Legislature's Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee for an initial allocation of $87,000 to manage the facilities, the paper reported.
The seven facilities are Dolley Farm Residential Care Home in Westbrook, Gray Manor in Gray, Rocky Hill Manor in Westbrook, Snow Pond Residential Care Facility in Sidney, Somerset Residential Care Facility in Madison, and the Penobscot Nursing Home and Northern Bay Residential Living Center, both in Penobscot.
