Stimulus considered for I-95 expansion

Interstate 95 may expand north of Houlton thanks to federal stimulus money, if the Aroostook County legislative delegation has its way.

The Legislature's Committee on Transportation earlier this week voted unanimously to request that federal recovery money be used to make the long-stalled project a reality, and the full Legislature is expected to vote on the proposal in the next few weeks, according to the Bangor Daily News.

Sen. Troy Jackson (D-Allagash) sponsored the bill, and said the extension would help farming and trucking businesses and improve transportation between Quebec and New Brunswick, according to the paper. The cost of the expansion was not reported, and is not mentioned in the pending bill.
