The site of the former Stinson Seafood cannery in Bath, which closed in 2005 and burned down the following year, is for sale for $2.5 million.
Through Dirigo Holdings LLC, developer and former Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Poliquin bought the 5.6-acre property on the Kennebec River in 2006 and tried twice to gain city approval to build condominiums there, according to a press release from listing brokerage Fishman Realty and The Times Record. But city officials denied changing the zoning of the property from industrial to residential use, according to the paper. Poliquin said in the release that he decided to sell the property in order to "move on to other projects." Since losing the primary, Poliquin has been stumping for candidate Paul LePage, and told the paper that if LePage wins, "I hope to be able to join him as part of his team in Augusta."
Bath City Manager Bill Giroux said the city hopes to attract a marine or commercial developer to the site, which also includes 850 feet of river frontage and a deepwater pier.
