Mark Strong Sr., convicted of promoting prostitution in a Kennebunk case that made international headlines, will serve 20 days in jail — for which he will pay $80 a day — and pay $3,000 in fines.
The Bangor Daily News reported Superior Court Justice Nancy Mills on Thursday sentenced Strong to serve that sentence immediately following emotional testimony from Strong and his family.
Earlier this month, Strong was found guilty of 12 counts of promotion of prostitution and one count of conspiring to promote prostitution.
For each of the 13 counts of Class D crimes, Strong faced up to a year in prison and a maximum fine of $2,000.
Strong's attorney, Daniel Lilley, had sought a 14-day sentence and $2,000 fine, arguing that the media attention given to the case, which he said humiliated Strong's family and destroyed his Thomaston insurance business, served as punishment enough.
In addition to the fines, Mills ordered Strong to pay $80 a day to cover the costs of room and board at the York County jail.
