Developer eyes $27M in former base projects

Topsham-based developer Jim Howard has announced plans for $27 million in new projects at Brunswick Landing, the former Brunswick Naval Air Station.

The Bangor Daily News reported Howard, through his company Priority Real Estate Group, plans to buy six parcels on the main road of the former Navy base for a mixed-use development, a move Howard said he decided to make because of easing tension between local and redevelopment authority officials.

As long as that relationship continues to be smooth, Howard told the paper, those projects will continue to move ahead.

Separately, Howard said he has plans to develop properties around the town's Cook's Corner shopping center — including a possible 40,000-square-foot medical building — located just outside of the former base.

Howard said the developments will not include new retail space of which there is 125,000 square feet vacant in existing buildings.
