Summit Natural Gas of Maine told the Maine Public Utilities Commission it has “mobilized all available resources” to inspect and replace pipe fittings in seven central Maine communities.
The Kennebec Journal reported that an Oct. 15 compliance filing with the PUC follows a commission order that requires Summit to check more than 600 electrofusion couplings that connect segments of pipeline in the company’s network.
Matthew Kaply, Summit’s director of regulatory affairs, told the paper that the company will focus on Augusta and Waterville and prioritize areas with a concentration of residential and commercial customers.
The company says the system is safe, but the PUC required the work to be done after it discovered this summer that a coupling was installed incorrectly.
