Summit Natural Gas of Maine President Mike Minkos said Friday that he is stepping down by the beginning of next year.
Minkos told the Portland Press Herald that the upcoming departure was his own decision and not connected to Summit’s recent troubles. Minkos said he came out of semi-retirement when he was asked to join Summit as president two years ago, adding that he is now ready to move back to his home in western Massachusetts.
Mike Tanchuk, the former CEO of Hannibal, Ohio-based aluminum producer Ormet Corp., will take over Minkos’ position. Ormet filed for bankruptcy last year.
Summit’s recent troubles include falling behind schedule on pipeline work, receiving a $150,000 fine from the Maine Public Utilities Commission and taking heat for a contractor that abruptly closed last month without providing services that dozens of customers paid for.
While Summit has contended that it had no relationship with contractor Dave Ireland Builders, the company said it would repay any customers who lost money.
