Survey: Jobs top Mainers' concerns

Mainers are most worried about their jobs, with gas prices and the cost of living also causing worry, according to a new survey by a Portland-based company.

The Pan Atlantic SMS Group asked residents a number of questions ranging from the economy to who they're going to vote for come November, the Bangor Daily News reported. Jobs concerned 22.3% of Mainers, followed by tax reform (13.3%), the cost of living (9.3%), health care (8%) and energy-related concerns (7%). In the last six polls, going back to February 2005, residents who were quizzed did not mention climbing heating fuel and gas prices.

When asked who they would select as president, 36.8% said they'd vote for U.S. Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), and 25.8% said they'd back Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.). A total of 18.3% said they were still undecided.
