LMF awards $18M for conservation

Land for Maine's Future has awarded $18 million to 46 conservation projects throughout the state.

The program's board on Tuesday awarded $15 million for conservation and recreation projects, $2 million for farmland preservation and $785,000 for working waterfront preservation, according to a press release from the program, which is administered by the Maine State Planning Office. The approved projects include $1.1 million to the Maine Coast Heritage Trust to protect 819 acres on Bog Brook Cove and Moose Cove in Cutler and Trescott Township, and $968,000 to the Maine Department of Conservation to purchase land or conservation easements on 11,600 acres in the Millinocket area, according to the Bangor Daily News.

Voters last November approved $17 million in bonds to fund Land for Maine's Future.
