TD Bank chairman retires

William Ryan ended his long tenure with TD Bank by retiring Friday from his post as chairman.
Ryan says he plans to help his son, Bill Jr., with his role as co-owner of the Maine Red Claws basketball team, according to the Portland Press Herald. In 1990, Ryan was named CEO of Portland-based Peoples Heritage Financial Group, which then became Banknorth Group, and was credited for navigating the bank through Banknorth's purchase by Toronto-based TD Bank Financial Group. Ryan stepped down as president and CEO of TD Banknorth in 2006.
