The biggest Mainebiz stories of 2021 spanned industries, geographies

"Unprecedented" was a popular description of 2020, but applies just as easily to 2021.

The U.S. Capitol became a site of violence not seen there in over 200 years. Space tourism achieved lift-off. Lifesaving vaccines launched as well, with the goal of stemming what had seemed like an unstemmable disease.

But as 2021 draws to an end, nearly 1 in 6 Americans have contracted COVID-19. More than 816,000, including 1,475 Mainers, have died of it.

The year wasn't just about the pandemic or other familiar headline-makers, however. At Mainebiz, our biggest stories included a wide range of news, spanning industries and geographies throughout the state. We've compiled some of these in a series of Top 10 roundups that will appear in the Daily Report over the next few days.

To start, here are the 10 Mainebiz Daily Report stories that were most widely read during 2021, as measured by our online analytics.
