The week in review

The good

Residential customers and medium-sized businesses will see electricity prices go down in 2017 following the Maine Public Utilities Commission’s approval this week of standard offer rate plans submitted by Central Maine Power and Emera Maine (for its Bangor Hydro district).

The bad

Biddeford’s downtown revitalization is a testament to the city’s hard work at transforming itself from a former mill town, but city officials are concerned a lack of parking spaces downtown is costing jobs and putting continuing job growth at risk.

The brewing wars heat up

D.L. Geary Brewing Co., Portland’s first craft brewer, is seeing a slide in production and sales, due in large measure to increased competition from the 75 in-state breweries that now make beer in Maine.
