Three nominated to top state posts

Maine Republicans nominated three people to top state positions Tuesday for two-year terms.

In a party caucus, Republicans nominated William Schneider, assistant U.S attorney and a former legislator, as attorney general, according to The Associated Press. Bruce Poliquin, a Republican who unsuccessfully campaigned for governor and former Wall Street investment firm manager, was nominated as treasurer. The secretary of state nomination went to Charles Summers Jr., who has served two state Senate terms and run three times unsuccessfully for the 1st District congressional seat.

Because Republicans hold majorities in both the House and Senate, the nominees are expected to be formally elected today when the full Legislature convenes.
