Jackson Lab CEO to leave in January
Eight months after announcing his intention to step down as head of The Jackson Laboratory, Richard Woychik on Tuesday said he will leave the post in January to take a job with the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences.
Woychik in March said he would step down after eight years as president and CEO of the Bar Harbor biotechnology nonprofit but did not give a timeline. He will become deputy director of NIEHS in Research Triangle Park, N.C., where he will be responsible for creating the agency's strategic plan and managing its programs, according to a press release. Jackson Lab officials have been searching for a replacement, and said that Charles Hewett, executive vice president, and Robert Braun, associate director and chair of research, would share interim leadership duties.
During Woychik's tenure, Jackson Lab nearly doubled its operating budget from $103.8 million to $192.4 million, built 118,000 square feet of new space and renovated 70,000 square feet of space, according to the release.
