Trade mission deemed a success

Eleven Maine companies that attended a recent trade mission to South America are reporting a favorable response and a potential for export growth.

The trade mission, led by the Maine International Trade Center, sent representatives from Maine companies and organizations to Brazil and Chile from Nov. 12-19. Participants included a handful of advanced manufacturers -- including Southworth International Group in Falmouth, Auburn Manufacturing and Yale Cordage in Saco -- as well as Hebron Academy, Hydro International in Portland and Falcon Performance Footwear in Auburn. Janine Bisaillon-Cary, president of MITC, said a total of 105 match-making meetings were set up with Maine companies and potential overseas buyers or business partners, according to reports from the Sun Journal and the Bangor Daily News.

Many of the companies reported making important connections and an expectation of further partnerships and export possibilities.
