Two health centers share $1.4M
Two health centers in Maine are receiving a total of $1.4 million in federal funding from the Affordable Care Act to expand services. Health Access Network in Lincoln is receiving nearly $800,000 and the York County Health Center is receiving a little more than $600,000, according to a press release from U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree.
The York organization will use the $602,083 to help open a new facility in downtown Sanford that is expected to see more than 6,000 patients annually and employ 12 people in the first year, according to Pingree. It will be run by the York County Community Action Program and is intended to serve families in Acton, Alfred, Lebanon, North Berwick, Shapleigh and Waterboro. The center will provide medical, dental and behavioral care.
Health Access Network will use the $787,500 to renovate a building on the Lee Academy campus that will be used for primary, urgent, behavioral and dental care, as well as other health and substance abuse counseling, according to a press release from U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud. It will serve 13 communities in the Lincoln area.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services yesterday announced a total of $128.6 million in awards for community health centers in 41 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Northern Mariana Islands.
