Lobster companies Shucks Maine Lobster and Ready Seafood Co. have signed lease agreements for space at the Maine State Pier, where development proposals for hotels and office buildings previously fell through.

The Bangor Daily News reported Ready Lobster Co., a lobster wholesaler, will expand its existing operation at the pier twofold, occupying a total of 24,000 square feet at the pier. The latest deal extends the company’s lease to Dec. 31, 2017, for $258,000 in annual rental payments to the city.

For Shucks, the 15-year pier lease will expand its Richmond-based operations to about 19,000 square feet at a former municipal transit shed. The company will pay $202,100 for its space in the first year.

Both leases come with annual 2% rental rate increase.
