Two Maine houses with literary ties hit the market
Maine is known for its literary history, and now two houses with literary ties have hit the real estate market in Maine.
The North Brooklin house where author E.B. White lived is on the market for $3.7 million, according to Yankee magazine. It includes the boathouse White converted to a writing studio, complete with the desk the author built, and the barn that was the inspiration for “Charlotte’s Web.” And, yes, it is on the water, overlooking Allen Cove and Blue Hill Bay.
Elsewhere, in Orrington, the house that inspired Stephen King’s “Pet Sematary” could be yours for $226,000. King rented the house in 1978, but actually wrote the book across the street from the house, in a rented room of a store, the Bangor Daily News reported. The house has been featured in several news stories, books, blogs and even an A&E biography on Bangor’s most famous writer, the BDN reported. “Pet Sematary” was about bringing the dead back to life.
