Two rural Maine health centers land $3.9M

Katahdin Valley Health Center in Patten will receive $2.74 million and Pines Health Services in Caribou will receive $1.17 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

U.S. Sen. Angus King, I-Maine, stated in a news release that the grant funding is awarded through the Health Resources and Services Administration, an agency within HHS that is tasked with improving access to health care by building healthy communities, strengthening the healthcare workforce, and achieving health equity.

HRSA’s programs target the economic and medically vulnerable as well as the geographically isolated. The grants are awarded under its Health Center Cluster program.

“People throughout our state rely on rural health providers for the essential health services that keep them happy and healthy,” King said. “This federal funding will support these facilities and help ensure access to top-quality care for the communities they serve.”
