UMaine system plans work force summit

The University of Maine System will gather the state's business, economic development and education leaders next month to address how to better prepare its graduates to work in Maine.

The daylong summit, "Advancing Maine: Aligning UMS Academic Programs to Meet Future Workforce Needs," will be held April 6 at the Orono campus. The event is designed to help guide the seven-campus system to prioritize new program development and strengthen existing programs.

Featured speakers include UMaine graduate, former reality television star and inventor Doug Hall, the founder of Eureka! Ranch; Laurie Lachance, president of the Maine Development Foundation; and John Dorrer, director of the state labor department's Center for Workforce Research and Information.

Each university will also broadcast the event through video conferencing and streaming audio. More information is available at www.advancing.maine.edu.
