In an effort to stem the state’s ongoing labor shortage, the University of Maine System came out with a free digital handbook to help employers connect with students seeking jobs or internships.
The “Hiring Guide for Maine Employers” contains links to job boards, career centers, university staff and resources for businesses looking to hire. The guide also includes a calendar of job fairs, networking opportunities and other events at each of the system’s seven schools.
About 32,000 students attend one of the schools over the course of an academic year, UMS said in a news release announcing the guide.
Filling unmet needs for professional employees, skilled technical workers and entry-level staff are three of the top five priorities for Maine, according to a recent poll of 1,000 business leaders conducted by the Maine State Chamber of Commerce, the Maine Development Foundation and advocacy group Educate Maine.
“We must take advantage of every opportunity to connect the students earning a world- class education on our campuses to existing and emerging Maine career opportunities,” UMS Chancellor James H. Page said in the release.
