UMaine, USM receive $116K for forest product support
The University Center Economic Development Program at the University of Maine and the University of Southern Maine will receive a $116,667 federal boost to continue providing technical assistance to the state’s forest products industry.
The program aims to bolster Maine’s forest products industry and the communities it supports by attracting innovation to the state and engaging Maine’s entrepreneurial community in research and development.
“The continued effort to strengthen the forest products economy requires an all-hands-on-deck approach, which is why we welcome this additional investment from the Economic Development Administration,” U.S. Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King and U.S. Rep. Bruce Poliquin said in a joint statement. “The University of Southern Maine has served as an EDA University Center for decades, and this funding will help expand that positive impact to UMaine-Orono. Working together, our universities can continue to play an active and important role in building a brighter future for the Maine forest products sector and for our economy as a whole.”
