The University of New England has appointed Dr. Jane Carreiro as the new dean of the UNE College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford.
Her appointment begins Nov. 1, though she will serve as dean designate beginning Aug. 1.
Carreiro’s appointment culminates a nationwide search that began in January when outgoing dean Douglas Wood announced he would step down when his upon replacement was named. Wood will be continuing at UNE in an advisory capacity while Carreiro transitions into the leadership position, according to a release from UNE.
“[The College of Osteopathic Medicine] was founded by a group of dedicated and committed osteopathic physicians who wanted to ensure that their patients and the families of those patients would receive the best healthcare possible,” Carreiro said in a prepared statement. “UNE continues to fulfill that dream as the largest provider of physicians in this state and further expands it by training health care practitioners, dentists and pharmacists to care for the people of New England and the nation.”
Carreiro has worked at UNE for 23 years, most recently serving as the director of Graduate and Continuing Medical Education and as a professor and chair of the Department of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine.
