UNE pharm school accreditation advances

The University of New England's pharmacy school has earned candidate status from the accreditation council, according to the Portland Press Herald.

The status from the Accreditation Council on Pharmacy Education means the school's Doctor of Pharmacy Program will likely be given full accreditation status once it graduates students, according to the council's website. Graduates of UNE's pharmacy program, which began admitting students last year, will be given the same privileges as graduates of an accredited program. Currently the program has 100 students, and another 100 will begin this fall.

UNE also announced that Gayle Brazeau will begin as the new dean of the College of Pharmacy in September. Brazeau was previously the associate dean for academic affairs at the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Buffalo, according to the paper.
