Unemployment flat at 7.8%

Unemployment remained relatively flat last month at 7.8%, the Maine Department of Labor announced Friday.
June's unemployment rate is little changed from 7.7% in May and 7.9% in June 2010, according to a press release. The number of unemployed totaled 54,100, down 800 from one year ago. The average New England unemployment rate was 7.8%, with state averages ranging from 4.9% in New Hampshire to 10.8% in Rhode Island.
Nationally, the unemployment rate last month was 9.2%, about the same as May's 9.1% but down slightly from June 2010's rate of 9.5%.
