Maine's unemployment rate inched down in October to 7.3%, the Maine Department of Labor recently reported.
Last month's preliminary seasonally adjusted rate is down slightly from revised rates of 7.5% in September and 7.6% one year ago. The number of unemployed totaled 50,700, down 2,100 from October 2010. Nonfarm payroll jobs were down 1,600 in October to a total of 596,100, reversing much of the unusually large job gain reported for Maine in September, according to the DOL.
The U.S. unemployment rate was 9.0%, little changed from 9.1% in September and down from 9.7% a year ago. U.S. nonfarm payroll jobs were up 80,000 in October.
