United Way of York County CEO to retire, national search launched

The United Way of York County’s president and CEO, Barb Wentworth, will retire later this year, and the Kennebunk-based nonprofit has launched a national search to replace her.

Wentworth has served in her current role for the past six years, and has been active in the United Way of York County since the early 1990s, according to her LinkedIn profile. Her career includes volunteer roles with other nonprofits including the Maine Community Foundation, and she served as commissioner of the Maine Commission for Community Service for eight years.

The UWYC has hired a consultant, Starboard Leadership Consulting, to lead the search.

In a letter to the UWYC board and staff, Chairperson Chris Indorf wrote, “Barb has provided visionary leadership for United Way, and served the residents of York County for three decades. Her accomplishments are too many to list, and while we wish she’d stay forever, we wish her all the best and thank her for assistance during this critical transition.”

The United Way of York County, founded in 1986, was formed from the merger of two smaller United Way affiliates. Currently, the organization is focused on funding services for young children and programs to improve nutrition for children and seniors.

More information about the search can be found here.
