US Airways adding Bangor flights

US Airways will begin offering nonstop flights between Bangor International Airport and Reagan National Airport in Arlington, Va., beginning in March. The airline will also add flights between Bangor and Philadelphia.

The daily flights to the Washington, D.C., area supplement US Airways current weekend service to the nation's capital, which the airline has offered for about a year, according to the Bangor Daily News. BIA Director Rebecca Hupp told the paper the airport has worked for years to add the daily D.C. service. In late March, US Airways will begin operating two outgoing and two incoming flights between Bangor and Arlington. The airline will also add one additional outgoing and incoming flight a day to its existing three flights between Bangor and Philadelphia.

The service was made possible by a landing rights deal between US Airways and Delta that gave US Airways landing rights in D.C. and Delta rights at LaGuardia in New York. As a result, US Airways will cease its service between Bangor and LaGuardia in New York March 25.
