USM selects new provost

The University of Maine System Board of Trustees today named Kate Langdon Forhan as the University of Southern Maine's next provost and vice president for academic affairs.

Forhan, who was selected from among more than 90 candidates, is currently dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago. As USM's next provost and vice president for academic affairs, Forhan will serve as the university's chief academic officer, responsible for overseeing its eight schools and colleges.

Forhan will begin her new position on April 1. She replaces Interim Provost Mark Lapping, who will return to the faculty.
