Verso Paper Co. has added more than 200 permanent and temporary workers at its two mills in Jay and Bucksport.
The hiring spree is the first in several years, and will add 20 permanent and 79 summer employees to the Bucksport mill, as well as 32 permanent and 78 summer employees at its Jay mill, according to the Bangor Daily News. Some of the new hires will replace workers who are planning to retire in the fall. Verso spokesman Bill Cohen told the paper 40% of its work force will reach retirement age by 2017, which could continue to drive new hiring.
The Memphis, Tenn.-based company employs 990 people at its mill in Jay and 795 at its mill in Bucksport.
