Vinland chef to open eatery featuring northern Italian cuisine

David Levi, the chef behind the ”hyper-local” Vinland restaurant in Portland, has unveiled plans for his latest culinary venture: RossoBianco, which will bring northern Italian cuisine and wine to the Congress Street border of Portland’s Parkside neighborhood.

While Vinland was founded on a 19-principle manifesto, with chefs using only locally sourced and organic ingredients, Levi told the Bangor Daily News that RossoBianco is intended to be a more low-key neighborhood hub and wine bar.

“It’s closely related, but slightly less stringent than Vinland,” Levi told the BDN. “This will be an easy place to pop in for wine and a meal, or whatever, whenever. It’s a casual place with a lower price point.”

A preview menu for RossoBianco included fried risotto balls with porcini, asparagus, egg, reggiano antipasto and buckwheat pasta, chicken bone broth and chanterelles, all paired with wine from northern Italy, according to the BDN.

Levi is expected to open the doors to the 45-seat restaurant at 3 Deering Ave. in Portland this July.
