The high prices of lobsters may soon be coming to an end as warming waters could bring an early start to the lobster season, along with lower prices across the country.
The Associated Press reports that although prices are different across the country, the arrival of New England lobsters typically lowers prices.
Scientists with the Portland-based Gulf of Maine Research Institute are predicting that Maine’s summer lobster fishing season will start two or three weeks early.
Andy Pershing, a scientist with the institute, told the AP that water temperatures in the central Gulf of Maine are running higher than the 14-year average and that the increase in catches could be imminent.
