A job fair in Waterville Wednesday will focus on the immediate hiring issues of large and small area businesses.
The Central Maine Growth Council, in partnership with CareerCenters, KVCAP and Waterville Public Library, will host the regional job fair from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday at T&B’s Celebration Center, 6 Jefferson St.
The job fair is part of Central Maine Growth Council’s effort to address workforce gaps.
“The majority of the businesses that we speak with are in need of reliable employees with strong soft skills,” said Garvan Donegan, senior economic specialist for CMGC.
He said that while there have been “incremental successes” through the organization’s partnership with MidMaine Technical Center and the pre-apprenticeship program focused on future workforce, there are immediate needs at many businesses, both locally and statewide.
The organization’s website lists 28 businesses that will be represented at the job fair, including major area employers like T-Mobile, MaineGeneral, Inland Hospital, Huhtamaki and Johnny’s Selected Seeds, to smaller businesses, like Cappza’s Pizza.
