Waterville, Falmouth energy firm enter into solar partnership
The city of Waterville and Falmouth-based Gizos Energy LLC have entered into a partnership to develop two solar arrays that would generate 25 megawatts.
The Morning Sentinel reported that the larger of the arrays would produce 20 megawatts and be on the city’s capped Webb Road landfill.
The project, which could begin in 2020, would generate up to 175 construction jobs and, once completed, provide power to 3,750 customers, the Sentinel reported.
The project would ultimately sell energy out of state, said Garvan Donegan, an economic development specialist for the Central Maine Growth Council.
It would be Maine’s largest such project on a closed landfill, Donegan said. The 140-acre landfill at 110 Webb Road, south of the city’s airport, was capped in 1998. The smaller array would be on 26 acres at 41 Webb Road.
