Wells Fargo lobbying efforts reach out to Maine
Maine is among the states where Wells Fargo has boosted its lobbying presence in recent years, as mortgage-related laws have come before various legislatures.
The Charlotte Observer reported that the San Francisco bank had limited lobbying ranks just five years ago, with none in Maine at the time. The bank registered more than 150 lobbyists in 31 state capitals in 2012, the newspaper reported in its review of state lobbyist registration rolls. That’s an increase from the 47 in 10 states it had five years ago.
State records show that the bank has since lobbied on three bills — one directly related to mortgages — in the last year in Maine.
Those bills included LD145, requiring any foreclosing entity to provide the court original mortgage documents, which Gov. Paul LePage vetoed in April.
