Acadia Insurance, a regional property casualty underwriter based in Westbrook, has promoted two of its top leaders.
Douglas M. Nelson has become chairman after serving as the company’s president, and David J. LeBlanc has succeeded him in that role after serving as chief operating officer and chief underwriting officer. Acadia announced the promotions in a news release Friday.
Nelson joined Acadia as president in 2011 and has helped advance Acadia’s commercial insurance lines throughout the Northeast, according to the release. He will continue to support the Acadia team throughout the transition, and will also take on responsibilities for W.R. Berkley Corp. (NYSE: WRB), the Connecticut-based holding company that owns Acadia.
LeBlanc joined Acadia in 2006 and has held several roles in the company. He has more than 35 years of experience in the property casualty insurance industry, and is a chartered property casualty underwriter.
W. Robert Berkley Jr., president and chief executive officer of W.R. Berkley Corp., said in the release, “We thank Doug for his work in advancing our terrific franchise at Acadia. We are delighted that he will continue to share his considerable talents with the teams at Acadia and Berkley more broadly. Dave is a proven leader and his appointment provides continuity to the many important initiatives Acadia has underway, as well as its various stakeholders.”
Acadia began in 1992 as an insurer of Maine businesses. In addition to its Westbrook headquarters, the firm operates a Bangor office as well as branches in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont.
