Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The deal closed Feb. 1. PSMJ Resources Inc., a business management consultant in Newton, Mass., initiated the deal and provided advisory services to St.Germain.

St.Germain has been at 846 Main St. in Westbrook since 2003.

Aventia brings together resources of a number of environmental service businesses. In addition to St.Germain, the roster includes KC Harvey, which is based in Bozeman, Mont.; BEM Systems, of Madison, N.J.; and ELOS Environmental, of Hammond, La.

Portfolio company

Aventia is in the portfolio of Bernhard Capital Partners, a private equity firm based in Baton Rouge, La., with $4.4 billion in assets under management.

Bernhard established Aventia in 2022.

St.Germain is expected to strengthen the platform’s consulting, engineering and technology capabilities and expand the geographic reach.

St.Germain has 22 employees and works from its office at 846 Main St. in Westbrook, where the company has been since 2003, Patrick Coughlin, the company’s vice president, told Mainebiz.

St.Germain has 22 employees and continues to hire. All employees will be retained.

“Our latest employee started on Monday, and we will be hiring more in the near future,” he added.

All employees were retained.

“Mark remains as president of St.Germain,” said Coughlin. “He joins the business unit leaders from the other three Aventia subsidiaries — KC Harvey Environmental, BEM Systems and ELOS Environmental.”

The St.Germain name will be retained, with the tagline “an Aventia company" underneath its logo. It will stay in its Westbrook location.

Expanded reach

Benefits of the deal for St.Germain include being able to offer its services to existing clients of other Aventia subsidiaries, such as expanding the reach of its online compliance tracking tool, said Coughlin.

He continued, “Our employees have greater access to professional and technical growth opportunities, with the potential to assist other Aventia subsidiaries with complex environmental and engineering projects in all parts of the United States.

“With 270 employees, Aventia can offer better benefits than a small company can offer.”

Aventia’s resources will allow St.Germain to provide additional services to existing clients, he said.

Additionally, “We realize some cost savings by centralization of some purchases and back-office functions” such as benefits, information technology, marketing support, policies and procedures.

“The team’s collective experience and demonstrated commitment to environmental excellence align seamlessly with our platform’s mission to deliver customized, best-in-class solutions for our clients, and we are confident in the value they add to our service offerings and capabilities,” said Dirk Applegate, Aventia’s CEO.
